The Bergen New Bridge Medical Center (BNBMC) is one of the largest not-for-profit medical facilities located in Paramus, NJ that also provides a wide array of expert services for addiction treatment, with joint sponsorship from the Department of Medicine and Behavioral Health Services. Bergen New Bridge Medical Center (BNBMC) Heroin Detox

The Bergen New Bridge Medical Center’s medically monitored heroin detox program is specially intended to meet the needs of persons who are suffering from the disease of addiction to drugs and other substances. The first step is to assess the needs of the patient and then determine which program is best suited and what level of care is required for his or her recovery.

Among the full range of programs that are available at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center are:

• Inpatient Medical Detoxification – Also known as Residential Treatment, this is inpatient treatment for addictive disorders under 24/7 supervision and support from a team of world-class and compassionate professionals. Bergen New Bridge Medical Center’s inpatient medical detox unit has eighty-four (84) beds. Before being admitted here, the individual will have to go through an initial physical exam and a health assessment by BNBMC’s world-class and compassionate medical professionals. This team of addiction board-certified physicians and nurses (i.e. registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing attendants) will be keeping an eye on the safe and structured withdrawal from heroin and other drugs (and/or alcohol). After completion of medical detoxification, the concerned individual will then be transferred to the next appropriate addiction treatment.
• Outpatient Programs – This is a recovery program that is less confining as compared to inpatient or residential treatment. The patients will be introduced to Narcotics Anonymous (and Alcoholics Anonymous). While under an outpatient program, where it is highly encouraged that they attend and participate regularly, the patients will still be monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week however and will be receiving the same professional care from Bergen New Bridge Medical Center as with their inpatient services.
• Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – The IOP, based on the 12 step model of treatment, offers 3 hours of treatment in daytime or evening schedules. Here you can expect counseling, psychodrama, family participation, and spiritual guidance to name a few. The day program is every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM; while the evening program happens every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Meetings are held at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. The counselors and/or psychiatrists will recommend the frequency and duration based on assessments and treatment progress of the patient.
• Partial Hospital Program (PHP) – The PHP (otherwise known as the MICA Partial Hospital program) is a more intensive outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with co-occurring mental illness and/or chemical addiction. Because of the seriousness of their psychiatric problem and the severity of their addiction, these patients undergo an organized 5-hour daily medical/psychiatric and nursing care.
• There are also two (2) groups that the patients can be referred to during their outpatient care. These are:
  • The Suboxone Support Group – offers medical monitoring, prescriptions from an addiction board-certified psychiatrist or medical specialist, and group therapy. You are to attend a minimum of three (3) per month.
  • The Vivitrol Support Group – offers medical monitoring, prescriptions from an addiction board-certified psychiatrist or medicine specialist, and group therapy. Participants are to attend a minimum of one (1) per month.

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center also has a Medication, Intervention, and Solutions Service. This service is exclusive for senior citizens aged  65 and above who are struggling with “too much medication” from sleeping pills, sedatives, pain killers, etc. BNBMC can recommend a personalized treatment for older people to help address issues like memory loss, mood swings, and deteriorating daily function as a result of too many medications.

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center (BNBMC) Alcohol Detox

To help a person in their road to getting sober, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center offers a safe, medically regulated, and effective hospital-based way of ceasing alcohol addiction and managing the physical symptoms related with suddenly stopping alcohol consumption. It is also based on the 12-step model where patients get care and services that will allow them to acquire necessary skills to control their alcohol addiction’s symptoms hence leading towards being able to become productive and prevent relapse in the process. As with their drug addiction detox program explained above, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center’s alcohol detox program advocates abstinence, family participation, and continuous support.

Similar to that of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center’s drug addiction treatment, the patient may be admitted to inpatient/residential or outpatient treatment services under the careful supervision of a competent and caring team of psychiatrists and certified counselors. Detoxification duration may range from days to months, but the question of how often and how long the patient’s treatment will be is ultimately determined from assessments and monitoring.
